My passion for music started in the early eighties. It all started
for me with Doctor Love performed by First Choice. Listening to
Amsterdam radio stations like Decibel, Future Line, WAPS etc. I
developped my musical taste. These radio stations played music you
couldn't hear on the national radio stations. I tried to record as much
as possible on tapes (TDK - SA90). Sometimes even in the middle of the
night. After a few years I started to buy my own records at records
stores in Amsterdam. My favorite shops were Attalos, Boudisque (later
Blackbeat) and Rhythm Import. The first 12 inch I bought was Newcleus -
Jam On It. Although I like Hip-Hop very much I mainly bought Funk and
R&B records and later also Garage (soulful) House. In compare to
other DJ's I don't have a huge record collection but I still have all of
them.
When I bought my first records I tried to mix
them with one tapedeck and a Dual turntable. That was a complete nightmare but after a while I got another Dual turntable and a little mixer from
Alecto. I spend many hours in my room playing my favorite records. At
high school for some years I played at every party there was. After
finishing my school I played at several parties but after a while I stopped DJ-ing.
Altough
I stopped DJ-ing my music collection was and still is growing ever
since. Somewhere in 2009 I started an online radio station called Funky Beat Radio together with some one else. Within a few months we had a
live show every day with a different DJ. Due to personal circumstances I had to
stop and from that time I started to make a lot of mixes with different
styles. I noticed I developped a passion for Soulful House so that's why
you will find a lot of this genre on this blog.
I hope you like them and enjoy listening.
